The award I almost forgot…

Sisterhood of the World Bloggers AwardIt has been a crazy time in the Ever-changing Life of a Mum household of late, so much so that it has taken me four months to get round to writing this post!

Back in June, I was nominated by fellow blogger Kelly from Mum-bo-Jumbo for the Sisterhood of the World Bloggers Award. Massive apologies to Kelly for it taking so long to getting round to finally answering your questions!

Over the past few weeks, I have seen posts from other bloggers receiving the Sisterhood of the World Bloggers Award, each time reminding me that I must get around to answering the questions given to me.

At the time of being nominated, I was popping in and out of the world of blogging as time would allow while caring for my newborn baby, who was three months old at the time. She’s almost 7 months old now and the fog has lifted, somewhat, and we even have a bit of routine going … well on some days anyway! In fact as I write this she’s napping, which I would also like to be doing after having just five hours of sleep last night but with a strong coffee in hand, here I am, because if I don’t do this now I just may never get around to it!

The Sisterhood of the World Bloggers Award aims to recognise the unique voices of women bloggers from all across the globe.

It provides a way to connect with other bloggers, get to know them a little better and recognise them for the great work they do …. because if there is one thing I have learned since starting my blog is that there certainly is a lovely blogging ‘community’ out there.

So here are my answers to Kelly’s questions:

Are you a skirt/dress or pants/shorts type of girl?

Usually pants, sometimes a skirt and occasional a dress. But shorts really aren’t my thing … I just can’t seem to find a flattering pair so I tend to steer away from them.

You can’t be bothered cooking dinner. What is your go to “cheat” meal?

Friday night is usually take out night in our house – the ultimate cheats meal! But we also have what I call “easy night” once a week, usually on a lazy Sunday night, in which I raid the freezer for any leftover meal portions I have frozen from previous dinners.

When was the last time you wrote or received an old fashioned letter by snail mail?

I haven’t written an actual letter for a long LONG time! But I have recently posted a bunch of ‘Thank you’ cards for people who attended my daughter’s Blessing and Dedication Day, does that count?

What are your top 3 pet hates?

  1. Ants in the kitchen (especially when they attack my freshly baked brownies left on the kitchen bench – not cool!).
  2. When my husband doesn’t make the bed in the morning, despite us having a rule that whoever gets out of bed last makes the bed.
  3. Definitely cleaning the bathrooms!

Share a link to your all time favourite post. What makes this particular post your favourite?

My all time favourite post on the blog is still the first post I ever wrote. Titled The Big Decision, it’s raw and full of emotion for me and reminds me of all the important reasons why I made the decision to leave work, focus on my family and start this blog. I also enjoy the post I wrote a year later looking back at how much things had changed for the better – One Year Ago…

Are you superstitious? If so, what is your most unusual belief?

No, I’m not overly superstitious, but I do believe that everything in life happens for a reason.

Tell us about a funny thing that has happened to you, or something funny you have seen this week.

What is the most embarrassing thing your child(ren) has said or done in public?

I’m being cheeky and answering two questions at once for this one. Definitely one of the cutest and funniest things that has happened in public is when we were on a flight back home from Brisbane to Melbourne and my daughter called out quite loudly “Everybody hold on!” as we were taking off. All the passengers around us had a good chuckle, as did I!

Give us your best tip about how to keep the household budget in order.

Meal planning and sticking to it is my number one tip! It makes grocery shopping so much cheaper as it can be can be crazy expensive and evenings are also less chaotic as I know what options I have to cook for dinner. Also, I find doing my grocery shopping online helps keep my budget in order as I can easily see what I am spending. While it may not always be as cheap as some supermarkets, I love how you can ditch any non-essential items from my cart if I’m over budget at the final checkout, unlike when you’re standing in-store at the register.

When was the last time you did a random act of kindness? What was it?

I guess the latest thing I did was pop a note into each of my children’s lunchboxes last week with a joke on it to make them laugh and share with their friends at school 🙂 They seemed to be enjoy it as they asked me to do it again the next day!

Now it’s my turn to pass on the love and nominate some blogs for this award. There are so many others I could have nominated, but I’m limited to 12! So here goes:

  1. Simplify Create Inspire
  2. Life Kids and a Glass of Red
  3. The Multitasking Woman (formerly The Multitasking Mummy)
  4. Our 3 kids v the world
  5. Not Another Slippery Dip
  6. Life at Number Five
  7. Mumma Be Organised
  8. Mamma Raj Says
  9. Toilets Aren’t For Turtles
  10. Mummy Wife and Me
  11. Create Bake Make
  12. Shauna ‘Round the Corner

And here are my 10 questions for you:

  1. When and why did you decide to start your blog?
  2. What is the inspiration behind your blog title?
  3. What is the very first blog post you ever wrote and what do you think of it now?
  4. What makes you laugh?
  5. Name three places in the world you would like to visit?
  6. What was the first concert you ever went to?
  7. What is the last book you read?
  8. Have you met anyone famous?
  9. What is you all time favourite quote?
  10. What would you tell your 18-year-old self?

Congrats, have fun … and hopefully you won’t take as long to get around to answering them as I did 🙂

  1. Oh thank you so much for the shout out. I really appreciate it. I will try not to forget the award and answer your responses 🙂 I think popping a note in the kids lunch boxes is so cute and I hate ants in the kitchen too!!

  2. I love what your little girl said as your plane was taking off. That is something my own kids would have said when they were younger. Loved finding out more about you. I used to slip notes in the kids lunch boxes too, until they got too old for that and said it was embarassing! (Sob …)

  3. I love our Friday night takeaways! It’s the sign that the weekend has officially started! And thank you notes totally counts! I always say I’m going to do Christmas cards and every year I don’t! Ugh!
