Elf on the Shelf antics

Elf on the Shelf antics - Ever-changing Life of a Mum

We’re really starting to fly towards the end of the year and Christmas is drawing ever closer.

In just a little over a week we’ll be welcoming back an special member of our family – Jinx, our adopted Elf on the Shelf.

My girls are so excited and can’t wait for Jinx to arrive, although they are somewhat freaked out by where he will actually turn up each morning when he does arrive.

If you don’t know much about Elf on the Shelf, the basic idea is that they are scout elves who are adopted by families and then help Santa by keeping an eye on children’s behaviour. They report back to Santa each night then return to your home before morning and hide for the children to find him or her. The elves are not to be touched by children or they lose their magic and need to return to the North Pole until they recover.

In our family, Elf on the Shelf is not used so much for behaviour but more as a fun annual Christmas tradition for my kids to enjoy in the lead up to Christmas, no different to an advent calendar really.

Jinx joined our family mid-way through December last year, as the girls put in their request to Santa for a scout elf a little too late. Although we didn’t get to enjoy him for the full 24 days leading up to Christmas, Jinx still managed to get into plenty of mischief around our house and we look forward to seeing him again on 1 December.

I thought I’d share a few photos of some the crazy antics our elf got up to – some of these scout elves really are characters. I think my personal favourite was printing a copy of his own face in our scanner!

You never know, maybe it will inspire your elf’s creativity this year!

  1. I barely remember to open an advent calendar every day, let alone deal withe shenanigans of naughty elves. Having said that though, the girls love our fairy door and often leave drawings for the fairies to have, so I’m thinking that this year I’ll do something with the fairy door instead of an advent calendar and this has give me a few ideas πŸ™‚

  2. I love Elf on a Shelf, although we do have to set our phone alarms to remind us to move the Elf before we go to bed! There have been mornings when our eldest tells us that Eddie is still in the same spot – we tell him it must be a really good place to keep an eye on everyone! Oops!

  3. I’m one of those weird people who don’t do elf on a shelf. To be honest, they freak me out. But I know they bring joy and amusement to many – I hope Jinx gets up to lots of mischief this year too!
