December is here and so is the madness. While I love this time of year and enjoy the preparations leading up to Christmas and the end of the year, it does at times bring a mild sense of panic.
I feel like so much is always crammed into the last couple of months of the year, that I often need to take a step back and remind myself of what is most important and go with that.
Recently, Miss 8 told me that she wished it was Christmas already and I reminded her not to wish away the time she has now to enjoy the lead up because sometimes that can be just as much fun as the day itself.
It’s something I think I need to tell myself as well as it’s far too easy to get caught up in the gift buying and present giving, jamming our calendars full of catch ups and pre-Christmas appointments. Yes, some of these things need to be done now but others can always wait leaving us more time to enjoy the season that lies ahead without rushing. If you need some more tips you can check out my tips for a stress-free Christmas here.
Today I’m continuing my Living Loving Making Baking series – a place where I share what I have been up to over the past month, things I’m loving, what I’m currently reading or watching, sewing and crochet projects, and yummy baking recipes I have come across.
PS Apologies for missing the November instalment of LLMB.
So here’s what has been happening my way lately.
It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas which means we’ll soon be re-welcoming a special member into our family for the festive season – our Elf on the Shelf, Jinx.
We put our Christmas tree up on the weekend in readiness for Jinx’s return on 1st December and this will be the third year that he has visited our home.
It’s such a fun annual tradition for all the family. I know my girls are looking forward to our little elf returning for another year, particularly Miss 2 who is really getting into the Christmas spirit, which always makes me smile. Although let’s hope she doesn’t touch the elf!
If you don’t know much about Elf on the Shelf, check out the post I prepared last year to find out more and see a little of what Jinx got up to at our place in the first year he arrived.
Today I am also sharing all of the crazy antics our elf got up to last year to help give others out there a little inspiration!
Happy birthday to me! This year marks a special occasion as I turn 40.
Now I’m not quite sure why 40 is made out to be so important. To me it is just another number, however everyone seems to be making a big deal about its significance so it’s got me thinking what it all actually means.
Is it because it’s meant to mark some sort of mid-way point in life? Because I sure hope to live longer than 80, if I have any say in the matter!
I realise I have come a long way over the past 40 years, I’ve achieved a lot and learnt even more along the way. But I think it has only been more recently that I have made the most life changing, most important decisions of my life so far. The moment I made the decision to slow down and step away from the frantic unsustainable life I was living. To leave the ‘busy-ness’, expectations and and things I ‘should’ be doing behind.
That was a few years ago now, but I’m going to use this birthday to continue this journey and make a few more important decisions in my life.
