Choosing a secondary school for your child

Choosing a secondary school for your child - Ever-changing Life of a Mum

I can’t believe that my family is already at the stage of having to choose a high school!

My eldest daughter is now in her final year of primary school so lately we have been spending some time considering the best school for her to continue her education.

There is so much to keep in mind, particularly at such a young age when she still has so much growth and change ahead of her as she navigates her way through the teenage years and becomes a young adult.

When I started high school, we simply went to the school closest to our home or the same school our older siblings were already attending. I don’t remember touring any schools or being involved in any kind of discussion as to which school I should enrol in.

These days, the choice can be more than a little overwhelming. However, I’ve tried my best to keep the process as simple as possible.

I thought I would share a few tips and some of the thoughts I have kept in mind throughout this decision-making process.

Living Loving Making Baking - Ever-changing Life of a Mum

My mornings honestly feel like something out of Groundhog Day at the moment.

Every weekday morning I wake at 6.30am to Miss 2 calling out ‘Mama, mama, mama’ in the cutest little voice ever as she waits to be fetched from her cot for a morning snuggle in my bed.

But wait. Now cue the Labrador whining from his mat by the patio door wanting to be let outside for breakfast. Then the bells on the cat’s collar ringing as she jumps off the bed and starts meowing for her food.

I leave the bed again, telling Miss 2 I’ll be back, and stumble around the house half asleep setting the animals up for their day. Then return to bed for a quick cuddle before getting up and dressed for the day, preparing lunches for my two older girls and getting them ready for school.

Some mornings the monotony drives me insane and I sigh as I go about my morning. Other days I see it in an entirely different light and feel extremely grateful for all I have and the opportunity to spend time with my girls in the morning and help get our day started right -the latter is not always an achievable goal, but something to aspire to anyway!

Today I’m starting a new series on the blog – Living Loving Making Baking. I hope to prepare a monthly post giving an update on what I have been up to lately, things I’m loving, what I’m currently reading or watching, sewing and crochet projects, yummy baking recipes I have come across and so on.

So here’s what’s happening in my world right now …

Doing things differently and how I fell into baby led weaning

Doing things differently and how I fell into baby led weaning - Ever-changing Life of a Mum

Later this week my baby girl turns two. Two! How did this happen? Where has that time gone?!

I look back on the past two years and realise how I have done things so differently this time round. In some ways, it almost feels like I have been I have been treading this path of motherhood for the first time again.

With my older girls, I was back to work within six to 12 months of them being born. They went to daycare and completed their preschool years in this setting before heading into primary school. But with my baby girl, I have been a full time stay at home mum needing to discover play groups and considering when might be the best age to start her at three-year-old kinder.

I haven’t rushed into swimming lessons and other activities like I did with my older girls. I’m just letting time be, enjoying what is going on around us, enjoying these moments … because as corny and cliché as it sounds, time really does go by so very fast. Just the idea of my youngest turning two makes me realise just how fast!

One area I really did do differently this time round was how I started feeding Miss 1 solids when she was old enough.
